Edge Treatments
Simple and Light ::
Pick up stitches and immediately bind them off. Same as crochet slip stitch edge.

With crochet hook, slip stitch edge. On second pass, slip stitch in back leg of previous chain.
Textured Stitch
- CO 41 sts.
- Row 1: Sl 1, K1, P1, K1, Knit to last 4 sts, K1, P1, K2.
- Row 2: Sl 1, K1, P1, K1; *K1, P1, repeat from * to last 4 sts; K1, P1, K2.
- Row 3: repeat row 1.
- Row 4: Sl1, K1, P1, K1; *P1, K1, repeat from * to last 4 sts; K1, P1, K2.
- Repeat these four rows.

Easy touches
- Use running stitch in contrasting color to accent ribbing or body fabric near borders.
Resilient ribbing
Knit into the backs of stitches that read as knit stitches and purl normally those that appear as purl stitches to create a firm ribbing.
Free garter stitch fabric selvage
Keeps the edge stitches neat. With the yarn in front, slip the first stitch of each row knitwise. Move the yarn to the back of the work before continuing.
Single garter selvage for other fabrics
Knit the first and last stitches of every row. Neat and firm.
Nona's Garter Selvage for Nonfree edges
Excellent for proportionally square fabrics, such as garter stitch, making it neat and easy to pick up stitches or to join pieces while knitting. On every row, knit into the back of the first stitch and then slip the last stitch purlwise with yarn in front: First stitch -> ktbl. Last stitch -> sl wyif.
Decorative Collar Treatment
This treatment is suitable for a rounded neck. You create ribbing and attach it to the garment.
Cast on an even number of stitches, using a circular needle three sizes smaller than the needle you used for the body of the garment. Knit 1x1 ribbing the depth you wish for the collar. Using a backstitch, sew the live stitches of the collar to the neckline of the garment.
Consider using a contrasting yarn for the stitching. Work a deeper ribbing to create a turtleneck. Work the ribbing in a back-and-forth strip to create a stand-up collar for a scuba jacket.
